The Legend of Waitara tells the story of Ngārue, a rangatira who travelled north to Kāwhia and fell in love with Uru-Te-Kakara. After time together, Ngārue returned south to Taranaki, leaving Uru-Te-Kakara behind.

Uru-Te-Kakara later gave birth to their son, Whare Matangi, who grew up on the Kāwhia coast and became highly skilled in whiu tara (dart throwing). When Whare Matangi became a young man, his mother gifted him a dart with magical powers and told him that five casts of the dart would lead him to his father.

Following the path of the dart along the coast, Whare Matangi journeyed south until the final cast landed at Waitara, where he was reunited with Ngārue. The legend speaks of whakapapa, destiny, and the enduring bonds between parent and child.

Puzzle piece numbers can be customised depending on your specifications, with standard options including 9-piece, 16-piece,18-piece, 32-piece, and 42-piece versions — making it easy to choose the right challenge level.
