Te Mata o Rongokako – The Sleeping Gianti - Single or Tray A4 Puzzle
Tae Eke Educational Resources
Te Mata o Rongokako was a great giant who lived long ago in Heretaunga. To prove his love for Hinerākau, he attempted an impossible task — carving a pathway through the hills so people could travel between the coast and the plains. Though incredibly strong, Te Mata became exhausted and lay down, and his body turned to stone, forming Te Mata Peak, the Sleeping Giant. This pūrākau explains how the land was shaped and reminds us that mountains, rivers, and valleys are living links to powerful ancestors and their stories.
