Tae Eke Educational Resources
A lonely pāua cried to Tangaroa, the god of the sea, because he felt ugly and unwanted. Tangaroa gifted him a beautiful, shimmering shell made of ocean blues, forest greens, and soft pinks, but other sea creatures destroyed it. Tangaroa then gave the pāua a strong shell and taught him to build its beauty slowly, layer by layer. In time, the pāua’s shell became a unique masterpiece, revealing its true beauty only at the end of its life.
