Tae Eke Educational Resources
The Legend of the Three Whales tells the story of a whale mother, her baby, and the father who journeyed into Tauranga Harbour long ago. Lost in the shallow waters of Rangataua, the mother and calf drank from a magical spring and were turned to stone. When the father came searching for them, he chose to join his family, becoming stone as well. Today, these whales remain as sacred landmarks, reminding us of love, sacrifice, and the enduring connection between whānau, land, and sea.
This story is brought to life as a 60 × 80 centimetre floor puzzle, made from durable MDF wood and 4 millimetres thick, designed for tamariki to explore through hands-on play, storytelling, and visual learning.
