Our Kaitiaki Wahine blocks are a beautiful storytelling taonga made especially for tamariki, designed to help kids stack, explore, and learn through hands-on play while connecting with Te Ao Māori. Each set includes two large foundation blocks (100mm H x 250mm W x 100mm D) representing Mārama and Hine-nui-te-pō, and eight smaller wahine kaitiaki blocks (120mm H x 40mm W x 40mm D) that fit perfectly in little hands. Together, they create an awesome way for tamariki to build their own stories while learning the roles and responsibilities of each kaitiaki.
In this set, the story begins with Mārama, the steady light that guides the night, and Hine-nui-te-pō, the deep presence of Te Pō — the realm of darkness, rest, and transformation. Between them, the wahine kaitiaki stand as the moving forces of the world: guardians of seasons, weather, mist, fire, tides, and life itself. As tamariki stack the blocks, they aren’t just building a tower — they’re learning that every realm has its purpose, and every kaitiaki has a role to protect, guide, and hold balance.
