Tae Eke Educational Resources
When Tāne Mahuta saw his forest dying, he asked the birds to leave the canopy and live on the forest floor to save the trees. Only Kiwi was brave enough to accept, knowing he would lose his wings and never see the daylight again. Because of this great sacrifice, Kiwi became a symbol of courage and is now the most cherished bird of Aotearoa.
