Tae Eke Educational Resources
The Legend of Awarua tells the inspiring story of a taniwha who lived in Porirua Harbour and dreamed of flying like her friend Rereroa the albatross. Through patience, courage, and daily practice, Awarua learned to lift herself from the water and touch the sky, proving that belief and perseverance can make the impossible possible. This pūrākau celebrates resilience, self-belief, and the power of dreaming big, while honouring the deep connection between people, guardians, and the natural world.
