Natural Materials. Meaningful Learning.

Our wooden learning resources are designed to support learning through touch, texture, and exploration. Crafted from natural rākau, these tactile tools invite tamariki to slow down, feel, trace, and engage in hands-on discovery that supports sensory development, fine motor skills, and creative expression. They are especially valuable for tamariki with additional learning needs, offering a gentle, calming way to connect with learning through physical interaction.

Rubbing boards encourage children to place paper over carved surfaces and use crayons or pencils to reveal kōwhaiwhai, koru, and other meaningful patterns, turning movement into art and curiosity into understanding. Each piece becomes more than a learning aid — it becomes a taonga rākau, a special keepsake that can hold the wairua of a centre, whānau, or kaupapa. Many centres choose to place symbols of significance on each side, and some even incorporate these taonga into daily karakia, strengthening connection, identity, and a sense of belonging.
