A Collection from Around the Mōtu
Aotearoa is a land rich with pūrākau. From the mountains and rivers to the forests and seas, every place holds a story that speaks of creation, challenge, aroha, courage, and transformation. These stories have been passed down through generations as taonga, carrying mātauranga about the natural world, guiding how we live with one another, and reminding us of our deep connection to the whenua.
The many stories of Aotearoa introduce us to clever heroes, powerful kaitiaki, and tūpuna whose deeds helped shape the land and its people. They teach values such as manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, perseverance, respect, and care for the environment. Together, these pūrākau form a living body of knowledge that continues to inspire tamariki and whānau today.
By sharing these stories with children, we help keep our kōrero tuku iho alive, strengthen cultural identity, and nurture a sense of belonging. The Legends of Aotearoa collection brings these stories to life through visual storytelling and hands-on learning resources that encourage curiosity, imagination, and meaningful connection.
We are always looking to grow this collection of pūrākau. If there is a legend from your rohe you would love to see brought to life, or a story that is special to your whānau, we would love to kōrero with you. Please get in touch to discuss a custom piece, or explore the legends above that we have already created.
