Ko Wai Tātou? (Who We Are)
This resource encourages early learning centres to create a localised pepeha that reflects the whenua surrounding their space. Tamariki are supported to learn and recite a pepeha connected to their own environment — acknowledging the maunga, awa, moana, ngahere, or other natural landmarks that are meaningful to their centre. By grounding identity in place, children begin to understand belonging, connection to land, and respect for the stories of the area they stand on. Through repetition, discussion, and shared recitation, tamariki build confidence while developing an early understanding of whakapapa and connection.
Each puzzle is customised for individual centres, reflecting their unique location and local stories. We have also created puzzles based on local landmarks, as you can see in the examples below. Please have a look, and if you like what you see, feel free to get in contact with us to discuss creating a puzzle for your centre.
